JOCELYN FINE: UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

3walls, in partnership with the Sarah Shepard Gallery, is pleased to announce Until We Meet Again, a solo exhibition of ten paintings by New Jersey–based artist Jocelyn Fine, created between 2023 and 2025. On view from November 6 through December 20 at the Sarah Shepard Gallery in Larkspur, California, the exhibition captures Fine’s evolving exploration of memory and natural landscapes.

Fine holds a BFA from the University of Vermont and an MS in Architectural Conservation from Columbia University. She studied painting at the Istituto per l’Arte e il Restauro in Florence, Italy, and completed painting conservation internships at MoMA, the Guggenheim, and the National Museum of the American Indian. Most recently, she was selected for the Millay Arts Residency in Austerlitz, NY (Summer 2025).

Fine’s background in art conservation fuels her fascination with uncovering what lies beneath the surface. Two decades of teaching art to young children have also profoundly shaped her creative process and approach to artmaking.

A cancer diagnosis in 2014 marked a turning point in her life, propelling her into a journey of introspection and spiritual exploration. Confronting mortality deepened her awareness of human fragility and inspired a new body of work that investigates the spiritual essence embedded in nature. Working from memory, she began creating dreamlike landscapes that transcend time and space—images residing deep in her consciousness. These works convey narratives about the vastness and power of the natural world, as well as the transience of human existence.

Thematically, Fine gravitates toward childhood memories, landscapes, and archetypes in nature. She explores the supernatural and the mysteries of the universe, often focusing on the liminal space between the conscious and subconscious to examine the deep interconnectedness between the human body and the natural world. Her paintings often merge human and natural forms to reveal a shared life force, portraying nature as sentient, emotive, and spiritually resonant. Influenced by the principles of Spiritual Ecology, her art responds to the climate crisis by affirming our inseparability from the natural world. Through these symbolic landscapes and anthropomorphic elements, Fine seeks to heal, connect, and elevate human awareness.

Fine’s landscapes are places that are both known and foreign to us. We recognize lakes, birds, trees, and buildings—but their dimensions, colors and forms transport us elsewhere. These are worlds we may have visited in memory, or ones we imagine entering in the future. They act as portals to another place—somewhere mystical, optimistic, joyful, and deeply personal.

Fine is an American artist living and working in New Jersey. She comes from a multigenerational family of artists, filmmakers, collectors, and gallerists. Her work has been exhibited widely, including at Kaliner Gallery (NYC), 5-50 Gallery (Long Island City), FORMah Gallery (NYC), the Montclair Art Museum, Sarah Shepard Gallery, 3walls and Akwaaba Gallery (NYC). Fine’s paintings are held in private and institutional collections across the United States and Canada.

Lauren Schiller is an author, award-winning producer/host, and live event moderator. Her groundbreaking podcast and nationally syndicated radio show Inflection Point, and her book It’s a Good Day to Change the World feature stories of how women build power and lead change. Schiller is currently working on an audio series with her brother called Relativity which investigates family myths, legends, and the history that shapes our American culture. Schiller and Fine are cousins.
