ALEXANDRA CHIOU

Chiou draws on nature and memory to create layered works on paper that celebrate her father’s life, legacy, and memory. Each layer evokes feelings of hope, love, and joy. Chiou is drawn to paper for its understated quality but also its resilience; it can be fragile and delicate but also strong and sturdy. She paints, cuts, and arranges various shapes and colors as if piecing together a puzzle; each shape, line, and color is a hint, trace, and impression of nature and memory.

Untitled, 2023, ink and cut paper, 17x16 in.
